Term Three of the 2025-2026 Academic Year: Recap and Reflections

As Term Three draws to a close, and with it another school year, we look back on a season full of discovery, celebration and fond farewells. From the end of April through to the end of June, Escuela Lomas Altas was busy with learning, laughter and the kind of community spirit that makes this school what it is. Each of these moments added another chapter to a memorable year.

The term began with energy in Kindergarten, where Interactive Day saw students rotate through movement, music and teamwork stations, practising coordination, making choices and working together through play. Their curiosity and cooperation turned every activity into a chance to discover something new. Days later, we marked Earth Day with a reminder that, at ELA, caring for our planet is part of how we learn and live every day. Through our partnership with Grupo Promesa, our whole community separates waste each month so it can be properly reused, and alongside our Zero Waste Days and eco-friendly commutes, these habits reflect the values at the heart of our IB programme. The following day, our hallways filled with familiar faces from the pages of beloved books as staff and students dressed up as their favourite characters for World Book Day. Led by Mr. Garreth, whose passion for reading and love of our library are felt across the school, everyone spent the day sharing the stories closest to their hearts.

In 5th grade, the IB Unit of Enquiry into economics became a real-world project. Working in small teams, students conceived, planned and launched their own food businesses, selling their creations at lunchtimes across the school. This was far more than a bake sale. Our young entrepreneurs tracked every peso spent on ingredients, managed their budgets and calculated their profits, bringing ideas like supply, demand, cost and revenue to life with every sale. April ended with Children’s Day, a celebration of our students filled with games, activities and special moments shared with friends.

May was a month of gratitude and togetherness. On a Saturday morning, our Preschool team took to the football pitch to face their parents in a match full of fun and great energy. Beyond the game itself, the highlight was seeing families, students and staff come together and create lasting memories outside the classroom. For Mother’s Day, our pupils made handmade artworks as gifts, thoughtful tokens of thanks for the everyday ways mothers and mother-figures inspire curiosity, kindness and courage. Later in the month, we celebrated Teachers’ Day, honouring the dedication, wisdom and care our teachers bring to school each day, shaping not only lessons but character, confidence and a love of learning.

June brought pride on and off the pitch. Our pupils took part in a football tournament where every player walked away with a well-deserved medal, earned through effort, teamwork and sportsmanship in every match. At Lomas Altas, we believe how you play matters just as much as the result, and our team showed exactly that. Soon after, our 6th graders presented their PYP Exhibition, the culmination of their years in the Primary Years Programme. Under this year’s theme, Nations We Build, they explored what shapes a nation, from ties and relationships to systems, power and the environment. Their work reflected weeks of thoughtful inquiry and collaboration, and it was a pleasure to watch them share their learning with such confidence and depth.

The year closed with two of our most special celebrations. At Graduation Day, each grade took to the stage with a song and dance of its own, and our Primary students brought fantastic energy to their ABBA-themed performance. A special congratulations goes to our 6th graders, who are not only completing their year but also leaving Escuela Lomas Altas as they take their next step into Middle School. We are so proud of all they have become. Days later, our Pre-First students celebrated their Kindergarten Graduation with songs and performances for their families, marking an important step before they begin Primary School.

Term Three has been a celebration of much of what defines ELA: care for our planet, a love of stories, learning through real experience, and a close bond between school and families. Each of these moments was made possible by the commitment our students, families and staff bring to this community every day.

To everyone who helped make this term and this year so special, thank you. We wish you a restful summer and look forward to all that lies ahead.
