First Term 2025 Recap

As we kick off the second term of this exciting year at Escuela Lomas Altas, it’s the perfect time to look back at all the incredible milestones and moments of joy that defined Term One in 2025. From cherished traditions and academic achievements to creative celebrations and community building, this term showcased the vibrant spirit of our ELA Family. Here’s how we made the first months of 2025 unforgettable!

Keeping Traditions Alive: The Joy of the Easter Hat Parade

This year’s Easter Hat Parade was a colorful celebration of creativity and imagination. For decades, this beloved tradition has united our community with its spectacular displays of handcrafted hats, and the 2025 event was no exception. From glittering top hats to bunny designs, the artistic efforts of students (and their families!) shone brighter than ever.

It was heartwarming to see the entire ELA Family come together for this memorable day—a true testament to how traditions connect us through generations. Thank you to everyone whose creativity and energy made this event so exceptional.

Inspiring Curiosity Through Science: Year 4 Science Fair

Our fourth graders students took center stage this year with their Science Fair, an event filled with sparks of discovery and innovative thinking. These young scientists presented their hypotheses and experiments with boundless enthusiasm, showcasing their deep curiosity and problem-solving skills.

The projects ranged from exploring the wonders of physics to delving into environmental sustainability, and the dedication of each student reflected the quality of education ELA stands for. It’s events like these that remind us of the incredible potential of our future leaders and innovators.

Uniting Through Sports: The Mini Olympics 2025

The ELA Mini Olympics brought out the best in our student community this term. From exciting races to friendly competitions in soccer and more, each event highlighted the energy, determination, and team spirit that define our students.

The joy on their faces during the games—whether celebrating a team win or cheering for their peers—captured the essence of teamwork and perseverance that we cultivate at ELA. Thank you to the coaches, volunteers, and families for making this day one for the books!

Celebrating Hard Work: Sixth Grade Middle School Announcements

This term, we proudly announced the prestigious schools that our 6th graders will attend as they begin the next stage of their academic journeys. From the American School Foundation to Edron Academy, our graduates’ hard work and the strong foundation they built at ELA are taking them to incredible destinations.

We couldn’t be more excited to see them shine as they embark on this new chapter. Congratulations to each and every one of our amazing 6th graders—you make us proud!

Creativity, Connection, and Celebration: ELA Day and Talent Show

In March, our creative community came together to mark two standout events—the ELA Day for Preschool students and the annual ELA Talent Show. ELA Day brought a spirit of joy and movement to our youngest learners through fun physical activities, fostering a love of fitness and wellbeing.

Meanwhile, the Talent Show was a dazzling display of music, dance, acting, and more. Our talented students left the audience in awe, from breathtaking performances to heartfelt displays of hard work and creativity. Bravo, ELA stars!

A Focus on Learning: Spelling Bee and Units of Inquiry

After a few years’ hiatus, the Escuela Lomas Altas Spelling Bee is back! Students tested their language prowess through a series of challenging rounds, and the excitement of competition was palpable. It’s so rewarding to see the return of school-wide events that push students to explore and excel.

Our Pre-First students also wowed us as part of their Unit of Inquiry on recycling. They created thoughtful posters to raise awareness about sustainability—showing us that even our youngest learners can lead positive change for the planet.

Cultural Exchange and Lifelong Connections: Sanderson Academy Exchange Programme

Our sixth graders had the privilege of continuing ELA’s 30-year tradition of cultural exchange with Sanderson Academy in Ashfield, Massachusetts. Their journey included visits to places like the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Yankee Candle Village in Ashfield along with unforgettable bonding experiences with their host families.

This time-honored program is one of the cornerstones of ELA’s identity, fostering global understanding and lifelong friendships. Thank you to everyone—both in Mexico and the U.S.—who helped make this year’s exchange a success!

Strengthening Community Bonds: Día del Amor y la Amistad and More

Kindness and connection were central to our Día del Amor y la Amistad (Friendship Day) activities. Students prepared lunches for their classmates in the Friendship Lunch Exchange, spreading joy and building relationships in meaningful ways. The celebrations highlighted the small gestures that make our community so special.

We also embraced diversity during our celebration of International Mother Language Day, with readings of The Emperor’s New Clothes performed in a remarkable array of languages like Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, and Flemish. Events like these remind us of the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our ELA family.

Looking Ahead

From lively parades and sports competitions to meaningful academic and cultural milestones, Term One of 2025 has been a true reflection of the vibrant energy, talent, and sense of community that define Escuela Lomas Altas.

As we step into Term 3, we carry forward the lessons learned, memories made, and goals achieved—ready to embrace what’s next with our signature ELA spirit. Thank you to every student, teacher, parent, and staff member who brought heart and dedication to this incredible term.

Here’s to many more moments of growth, connection, and celebration in the months to come!
