As the first term of 2025-2026 comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting with joy and gratitude on months brimming with learning, connection, and growth at Escuela Lomas Altas. The start of a new academic year is always a special time, and this one was no exception. There was a vibrant energy throughout our campus as students and teachers reunited, friendships were rekindled, and curiosity blossomed from the very first week. Classrooms buzzed with discovery, while the playground resounded with laughter as our community came together to welcome new experiences.
Celebrating tradition has always been at the heart of life at Lomas Altas. Early in the term, our school gathered to honour Mexican Independence Day with pride, led by the spirited “grito” and surrounded by a colourful celebration of history and heritage. The sense of belonging was deepened by the range of autumn festivities as well. Our creative Halloween parade and Día de Muertos observances filled the halls with costumes, ofrendas, and heartfelt stories, making each child feel part of something bigger. These shared moments reaffirm the ties that unite us and keep our school’s spirit alive.
Effort and enthusiasm also found expression both inside and outside the classroom. Our Primary School students achieved a remarkable milestone in September with a reading initiative, collectively finishing over five hundred books in just one month. The dedication of these young readers inspired our entire community, setting a tone of perseverance and passion for learning. Athletes showcased their teamwork and drive with an early football victory that set the stage for a term full of camaraderie and achievement. Meanwhile, our fifth graders delved into big questions about sustainability and caring for our planet, embarking on hands-on investigations where science meets stewardship, guided by the belief that every thoughtful action counts.
This term also saw Lomas Altas students growing as informed and open-minded young citizens. Daily sessions with CNN 10 became a 5th and 6th grade classroom ritual, helping our students connect with global events and strengthen the skills of inquiry and discussion. Our first graders journeyed into questions about family history and identity, sharing personal stories that wove new threads into the fabric of our community. Special visits, such as a talk from Dr. Eduardo Barragán on the effects of video games on the brain, as well as an inspiring workshop from the World Wildlife Fund, offered unforgettable opportunities for enrichment and reflection.
The spirit of giving flourished in November during our annual Philanthropy Month, which brought our school community together for a purpose greater than ourselves. Students and families partnered with local foundations, collecting items and assembling care packages for families in need. When we welcomed guests from these organizations to our school, the act of giving became a joyful, shared event that brought students face-to-face with the real impact of their generosity. Philanthropy Month wasn’t just about donations; it was about building friendship, compassion, and understanding, values that echo far beyond our campus.
As the year drew to a close, festive traditions brought another wave of joy. Decorated doors and winter performances filled our halls with music, laughter, and the happiness of being together. The creativity and collaboration displayed during these celebrations reminded us once again of what is possible when everyone contributes their unique gifts. This December, our Christmas Bazaar once again transformed the school into a lively gathering place, brimming with festive cheer and generosity. In its latest edition, the bazaar welcomed families, staff, and friends from every corner of the ELA community, all coming together to share in the season’s joy. Thank you to all who visited and helped make the event a heartfelt celebration. Events like the Bazaar continue to remind us how powerful community spirit can be at ELA.
Term one at Escuela Lomas Altas was not just a series of events, but a living narrative of effort, kindness, and curiosity. We have celebrated the big achievements as well as the quiet, everyday moments that make our school truly special. As we look ahead, we do so with deep gratitude for the community we share and excitement for all that is still to come.
To every student, parent, and member of staff, thank you for filling this term with warmth, learning, and the unmistakable Lomas Altas spirit. Here’s to more discovery, friendship, and celebration in the months ahead.
